Seventeen was created in 2004 by three friends playing the game 13 who realized the game was much more fun and strategic when 17 cards were dealt to each player instead of 13. Two of the players playing the game 17 together a few weeks later began to call the game 17. By the mid late 2000s, 17 was popularized in their friendship groups and it was not uncommon to play 17 10-20 times a day for fun. In 2014, one of the 3 players thought of the idea of making an app based off the game 17. Due to other projects , the 17 game app was put on hold until it was finally created in 2025.
